I am really excited to start my English Language project. I was going to compare tabloid papers to broadsheets, but that was so obvious and BORING, so I decided against it.
So anyway, I was thinking about something that I actually like at the moment which will make a good investigation, and all I like is Sherlock ahah. So I have decided to do an investigation in to language change between the 60s, 80s and 2012 versions, and investigate both:
- whether the time the programs were made influences the language use,
- whether the time the programs are set influences the language use.
Because there will be obvious differences between all three. I’m going to compare them to each other, but then also the text that they have been adapted from (almost as a “control” piece). I think I’m going to do corresponding sections from The Hound of The Baskervilles (or equivalent), as it is the most famous and will definitely be in all three series.
So it means I get to watch Sherlock and the old ones too, so I can transcribe it, and also the original book- and this counts as work! woooooooo best project ever!
